Nottingham maternity scandal – minority communities have been the worst affected
Concerningly, there has now been suggestion there are a number of families in Nottingham who do not realise that they have been harmed and affected by the poor treatment provided to them at either the Queens Medical Centre (QMC) or City Hospital in Nottingham. Worryingly, families from minority communities have been the worst affected.
With the review now expected to include around 1700 families’ cases, it is more crucial than ever that the families have a voice as well as an opportunity to understand exactly what has happened and what should have been different.
Nottingham maternity services review to ensure all families have their voice heard
The review into maternity services in Nottingham is now pushing to ensure that all of the families who have been harmed are informed and that their voice is heard. In order to do so, Donna Ockenden, who is leading the review, has confirmed that she intends to improve the way Nottingham University Hospitals (NUH) communicates with its patients, including by ensuring the hospital has access to proper translation and interpretation services.
The latest plans were discussed at the Nottingham University Hospitals (NUH) Trust’s annual meeting yesterday, which promised that these changes were being put into place.
