Birlea Furniture Aquires EMDC Site
Freeths’ Real Estate team members Isobel Radford and Nicola Grange recently assisted contemporary furniture supplier, Birlea, on its acquisition of a 50,000 sq ft unit at the East Midlands Distribution Centre (EMDC), just off the M1 at Castle Donington. EMDC is also the home of M&S’ 1million sq ft dedicated e-commerce and national distribution centre and more than 50% of the 2.5million sq ft site is already completed and occupied. Birlea acquired the adjoining 36,000 sq ft site in 2010 and business has flourished since the move.
Birlea is currently probably the third or fourth largest importer of furniture into the UK. The additional space will enable the company, which is 18 years old and employs 45 staff, to grow its product range and to further its aim to become the largest importer of furniture into the UK.
We look forward to working with Birlea on the next stage of their expansion.
