David Keenan is a highly experienced practitioner within sport.
David uses his expertise to assist with managing sport-related disputes as well as advising on commercial matters, and prides himself on working with clients to help them to work towards a common goal.
David is regularly instructed to represent players, athletes, managers and agents in domestic and international disputes (including before FIFA) as well as anti-doping and disciplinary proceedings. David also regularly advises sportspeople in relation to commercial matters in sport, including representation agreements, player contracts, image rights agreements and endorsement/sponsorship agreements. David is experienced in acting in a number of sports including football, rugby, horse racing and boxing.

- Cardiff City v Barnes & others – Acting for two football agents in defending a high profile High Court claim arising out of the fall-out between Cardiff City and Malky Mackay and Iain Moody. The Claim brought and reputational impact was potentially significant given the case received considerable press exposure.
- Castleford RLFC v Sale Sharks, Denny Solomona & Andy Clarke – Represented a rugby agent in the high profile High Court claim surrounding an England player’s controversial switch from rugby league to rugby union. The case was widely reported in the press as a potentially leading case and was referred to in some quarters as potentially a new Bosman-type case.
Sport & Leisure Claims
David is regularly instructed to act in relation to sports law matters, including FA Rule K Arbitrations, Premier League Rule X Arbitrations, disciplinary proceedings, disputes before FIFA’s Dispute Resolution Chamber and Player’s Status Committee, high profile sporting disputes before civil courts, high level sports personal injury cases and criminal charges against professional sportspeople.
David is also regularly instructed to advise on commercial/contractual matters within a sporting context.
