Freeths contentious trusts and estates team shortlisted for prestigious award

Freeths is delighted to announce that it is one of only five firms across the UK to have been shortlisted for the Contentious Trusts and Estates Team (large firm) of the Year category at the Society of Trusts and Estate Practitioners (STEP) Private Client Awards 2016/17.

The 12th annual prestigious STEP Private Client awards highlight excellence among private client solicitors/attorneys, accountants, barristers, bankers, trust managers and financial advisors. This year STEP received a record number of 265 entries from 24 countries around the world across 20 categories.

Freeths' highly regarded contentious trusts and estates team consists of 15 lawyers and includes four ACTAPS members and three affiliate members of STEP. One of the team was awarded the Association of Contentious Trust and Probate Specialists' (ACTAPS) 'Contentious Solicitor of the Year' in 2013. The team advises on claims under the Inheritance Act, will challenges, removal applications, rectification and/or construction applications, contested court of protection work, estoppel claims, devastavit actions, etc. (value of cases range from £50,000 to £50m).

STEP comments that the standard of entries was very high and being shortlisted for a STEP Private Client award is a great achievement. Freeths has been shortlisted along with Farrer & Co, Herbert Smith Freehils, MacFarlanes and Withers.

The winner will be announced at an awards evening in London in September 2017.

Mark Keeley, head of private litigation at Freeths, commented

"We are delighted to have been shortlisted by STEP. This is deserved recognition for our contentious trust and probate team. It is very pleasing to be ranked alongside leading City of London firms."
