Freeths Legal Scholarship Scheme to run for the seventh year

The Milton Keynes office of national law firm Freeths is once again offering a brilliant opportunity to A-level students with the ambition of pursuing a career in law. Freeths are committed to providing opportunities to those that are interested in a career in law but may benefit from some assistance. Their commitment to ensuring and celebrating diversity in the workplace has been recognised by The Times and at the UK Diversity Legal Awards, where Freeths won the award for 'Firm of the Year'. The scheme is aimed at school leavers in the Milton Keynes, Beds, Bucks and Northants area and all shortlisted candidates attend a useful session with trainee solicitors and legal assistants and many have been offered a short work experience placement. In addition, the winner will receive a £1000 bursary and a paid two-week work experience placement, which will take place in the Milton Keynes office during 2020. The placement will provide the successful candidate with the invaluable experience of working in a top ranked UK firm and will provide a real insight into life as a commercial lawyer. Sherifat Aminu, former student at Stantonbury Campus, was the winner of the 2015 scholarship and now works at Freeths as a Legal Assistant.

She commented that “the Freeths Legal Scholarship has been one of my biggest achievements to date. Winning that scholarship was the catalyst to me pursuing a career in commercial law and the work experience helped me gain invaluable skills for my CV. I could not be more grateful for the opportunity as it also opened the door for many more opportunities. The fact that I won a scholarship and already had substantial amount of legal experience under my belt gave me something to stand out as a candidate at interviews. As a legal assistant at Freeths now, I have come back full circle into a firm which helps to enrich young students early on with the confidence and motivation to pursue their goals no matter what background they have come from.”

Alicia Dominique, former student at Northampton School for Boys, won the 2017 scholarship and spent two weeks in the Milton Keynes office in September 2018.

She commented that the scheme proved to be “a really rewarding and informative experience. The scheme itself gave me a valuable insight into the day-to-day running of the firm, as well as the opportunity to be involved in exciting live matters.”
