Supporting our people
Leaders in law, with people at heart
Sustainable high performance depends on people having the flexibility and support to manage work alongside the other priorities in their lives.
Our suite of compassionate, family-friendly policies provides further support at different life stages and in a range of personal circumstances.
Many of our senior leaders work flexibly, and we welcome conversations about flexible working for any of our vacancies, seeking arrangements that work for both the individual and the business.
Our wellbeing strategy focuses on three connected areas: mind, body and connection. That means strengthening mental health support and resilience, helping people look after their physical wellbeing, and creating a culture where people feel they belong and can talk openly about wellbeing.
Employee wellbeing is one of the issues identified as most important to our people, our business and our wider stakeholders through our 2026 materiality assessment.
Health and wellbeing
Health, wellbeing and performance go hand in hand.
Law can be a stressful sector to work in, and we go out of our way to create a supportive and caring environment at Freeths. Our line managers play a central role in creating this environment.
Our Wellbeing and Sustainable Performance Survey shows that most discuss wellbeing as part of regular check-in conversations, while more than three quarters of our people feel comfortable asking their manager for additional support when they need it.
Through the Mindful Business Charter, we look for unnecessary pressure in the way we work and help our leaders create the conditions for people to perform at their best, sustainably.
We use colleague feedback, sickness data, health assessments, counselling usage and external benchmarks to understand where people need more support and to measure where we're making progress.
“Wellbeing matters because we all do our best work when we feel listened to, supported, respected and able to manage the pressures of our roles. We work in a high-pressure environment with demands from clients, the Solicitors Regulation Authority, the pressures of time recording and tight deadlines, plus we’re all facing fast-paced changes in tech and AI. If we look after ourselves and each other with a healthier culture overall, we can face those demands together and deliver high-quality service to our clients”.
