We are delighted to be hosting a free in-person morning event on UK nature markets.

Freeths’ legal experts will be joined in two panels by experts from different fields and sectors operating in and around nature markets. Across the two panels we will discuss what ongoing legal and policy developments mean for both the demand and supply side of environmental markets, as well as looking at the practical challenges faced by stakeholders operating in nature markets, and what is needed to overcome these challenges to encourage further growth in nature markets and landscape-scale nature recovery.

We hope the event will add to the growing conversation on UK nature markets, allowing those attending to learn from others and share their own ideas on how nature markets can reach their full potential.

Panel 1 – generating supply of nature credits in a changing legal landscape

The first panel will explore what expected changes in the law mean for landowners, intermediaries, and investors looking to create or invest in habitat banks and natural capital projects. We will discuss practical and legal challenges faced by those looking to create natural capital projects, as well as possible solutions.

Confirmed panellists

  • Chris Scott, Chief Commercial Officer - Biofarm Ltd
  • Clark Gordon, Water Neutrality Project Manager - Horsham District Council
  • Guy Thompson, Managing Director - Entrade
  • Richard Fitton, Investment Director - Finance Earth
  • Phoebe Tucker, Senior Nature Associate - Green Finance Institute

Panel 2 – building integrity in nature markets

The second panel will look at the governance of nature markets, discussing how buyers of environmental credits can have confidence in the integrity of nature or carbon credits, and the potential for growth in demand in both the compliance (e.g. BNG / nutrient ) and voluntary nature markets.

  • Prof David Hill, Founder, President - Foundation for Nature
