Freeths sponsors first Fashion Capital Trunk Show in Manchester

Fashion Capital will host its ‘How to Succeed in Fashion Today’ seminar with headline sponsor Freeths solicitors on 30th March at the Manchester Art Gallery.

The Trunk Show is the first of a series of seminars to tour the UK offering real advice to today’s fashion start-ups. Supported by The Textile Institute, ABC Awards and the Northern Clothing and Textiles Network the Trunk Show is an opportunity to reach out to up and coming designers based outside of London and ‘lift the lid’ on the real UK fashion industry.

The UK garment industry has recently been under scrutiny with documentaries including Panorama’s report on child labour in factories in Turkey and more recently the Dispatches two part documentary - Britain’s Cheap Clothes.

As a leading Fast Forward and SMETA approved Factory, Fashion Capital’s sister company Fashion Enter produces 8,000 units a week for clients including ASOS, M&S and Finery as well as sampling and small production runs for independent brands and new business startups. As a social enterprise Fashion Enter teaches designers how to communicate with manufacturers and how to find the right manufacturer for their production.

In the seminar Jenny Holloway, CEO Fashion Enter and Fashion Capital will talk openly and candidly about production in the UK - what is the garment life cycle, what should designers be looking out for when visiting a factory, pre planning the visit, setting an agenda, what questions to ask, what are the key elements to a costing, how samples are actually generated and much more!

Joining Jenny is Sarah Moore and Lindsey Clegg from headline sponsors Freeths solicitors who will discuss the importance of IP and copyright and will be on hand to answer any questions of the legal side of running a business. Design consultant Gabrielle Shiner-Hill, a highly skilled textile and fashion designer and product developer who has worked in the manufacturing industry for over fifteen years will offer advice on the design process and product development.

Former Fabric Technologist for Marks & Spencer, Deborah Shulton will provide an essential guide to understanding fabric covering influences on cost, lead time and quality and Rosie Davies, Director of the London Fashion Agency will reveal how designers can do their own PR, work with bloggers, manage their social media and secure media coverage!
