Freeths joins Elsie’s Story in supporting Vortex Cheer’s new home

Vortex Cheer, a cheerleading and dance school based in Southport, has officially opened its new premises at AK Business Park thanks to the support of Elsie’s Story and Freeths.

Elsie’s Story is a charity set up in memory of Elsie, who was one of the youngest victims of the tragic Southport attacks in July 2024.

The charity’s generous donation funded essential equipment and mats for the school, while Freeths provided pro bono legal advice to secure the lease, enabling Vortex to expand and continue offering classes for children and young people in the local community. Elsie herself was a member of Vortex Cheer, making the project especially meaningful.

To assist with the move, Freeths Real Estate Director Mark Alexander offered his expertise on the lease arrangements to support the school’s growth and community impact. Mark first connected with Vortex during a summer colour run in aid of Elsie’s Story and pledged his support to help the school secure its new home.

Reflecting on his work, Mark Alexander said: “It’s been a great privilege to help Vortex Cheer secure their new home. Their work brings joy and confidence to young people, and supporting them, alongside Elsie’s Story, felt like a meaningful way to give back to the community.”

Aime Cruickshank, Head Coach and Owner of Vortex Cheer, added: “Thank you doesn’t quite cover how grateful we are for the support from Freeths and Elsie’s Story. Without it, we would still be limited to shared facilities, with equipment in storage and no space the girls could truly call their own."

“Having our own home has completely changed things. Some of our athletes are now able to be here five days a week simply because we have the space. It has given them a safe, happy place where they can grow in confidence, make memories and feel part of something special."

“We’re also proud to be honouring Elsie’s legacy in our new home, which means so much to everyone at Vortex.”

This project reflects Freeths’ ongoing commitment to pro bono work and community engagement through Freeths IMPACT - our responsible business mission to make a positive difference across colleagues, communities, climate and clients.
