Freeths supports Glenbrook as it completes flagship Legal & General Build to Rent scheme in Leeds city centre

Leading law firm Freeths has supported tier one residential property developer Glenbrook from acquisition through to completion of a 500-home build-to-rent (BTR) development at Whitehall Riverside in Leeds city centre.

As a long-standing client of the firm, the Manchester Real Estate team advised Glenbrook on the transaction which was developed in partnership with leading institutional investor Legal & General.

This completed development, known as Tura, forms part of the wider Whitehall Riverside masterplan and comprises two buildings of 19 and 16 storeys. The scheme provides a mix of one, two and three bedroom apartments, including 25 homes offered at a discount to market rent. It is one of the first residential developments in the UK to achieve Gateway 3 approval under the Building Safety Act.

The deal marks a significant step forward for Leeds’ residential offer, delivering much needed high quality rental homes and setting an early benchmark for how major schemes can be progressed confidently under the new Building Safety Act regime.

Commenting on the deal, Stephen Lewis, Real Estate Partner who led the Freeths team, said: “Advising Glenbrook through the piece on what is now known as Tura certainly highlights our capability in supporting complex build‑to‑rent developments under the evolving regulatory landscape. As a long‑standing client, it has been a real pleasure to continue working with Glenbrook on this flagship scheme, providing integrated real estate, construction and regulatory advice. The project is a strong example of how we work collaboratively with developers, institutional investors and the wider professional teams to progress major projects with confidence.”
