Alex Brown

Alex is an Associate in the Manchester Restructuring and Insolvency Team. 

Alex operates a split practice, assisting clients (whether Insolvency Practitioners, company directors, individuals or creditors) with all aspects of corporate and personal insolvency matters, whether contentious or non-contentious.

Alex’s non-contentious practice sees him often act on transactional matters, mainly arising out of the sale and purchase of insolvent companies on a pre-packaged basis or otherwise. Alex is also able to advise and assist Office Holders in respect of the practicalities of their appointment, validity of security, remuneration and administration extensions. Conversely, Alex also acts for potential purchasers of distressed assets out of insolvent estates and is able to advise accordingly. 

Alex’s contentious practice means that he often brings claims on behalf of Liquidators, Administrators and Trustees in Bankruptcy under the Insolvency Act 1986 and the Companies Act 2006. Such claims span across an extensive range to include transactions at an undervalue, preferences, unlawful dividends, overdrawn directors’ loan accounts and misfeasance claims. Equally, Alex also acts on behalf of individuals and/or entities who are the subject of Office Holder claims with a view to putting forward defences to the same, or in the alternative, assisting in the negotiation of amicable compromises for all parties.
