John is a Senior Associate who acts for clients on non-contentious construction projects. He has experience acting on both the employer/funder and consultant/contractor sides of a variety of developments.
John is experienced with drafting, negotiating and advising on JCT and NEC suites of contracts,
professional consultant appointments and other ancillary construction documents such as collateral warranties and guarantees.

Notable work & expertise
- John recently spent six months seconded to one of our large contractor clients where he assisted at both bid stage, reviewing and raising
clarifications on tender opportunities, and at award stage, negotiating the terms of building contracts. - Advised a property developer on a circa £100 million development of a large residential block of flats in Leeds city centre. The project involved 12
professional consultants all of whom required formal appointments and collateral warranties which required negotiation with the respective
consultants and their insurers, whilst accounting for the requirements of the funder and main contractor. - Regularly reviews JCT building contracts referred by an in-house legal team at a large local authority. This entails working with the project
managers and council officers to identify potential risks and any corresponding amendments required to the contracts. - Assisted a developer with the negotiation and completion of three building contracts for the development of a new town square comprised of a
supermarket, day nursery and a mixed-use retail/residential block (project value circa £10 million). - Currently advising a local authority on the development of a new fire station. The documents that John is negotiating include: a development
agreement, building contract, consultant appointments and collateral warranties.
