Merry is a Senior Associate in the Trust, Estates and Tax team at Freeths’ Nottingham office. Having undertaken her training contract at HMRC, Merry has a particular interest and focus on personal tax advice and planning including inheritance tax and capital gains tax advice. Merry enjoys interpreting technical and complex legislation for clients and presenting advice in a straightforward and accessible manner.
Merry also has experience assisting a wide client base both in Nottingham and in London with a variety of private client related matters including preparation of Wills, Trust advice, administration of estates and preparation of Lasting Powers of Attorney.

Notable work & expertise
- Administering a £10million+ estate including foreign property and assets. I liaised with French and Spanish lawyers and tax advisors to obtain the equivalent Grants of Probate in those countries and dealt with double taxation issues
- Preparing Lasting Powers of Attorney for an elderly client who appointed our Trust Corporation as his financial attorneys, then I was the primary lawyer dealing with his affairs
- Providing advice to clients moving to the England from UAE on the remittance and arising basis of taxation, including advice on the Statutory Residence Test and domicile
- Providing advice to a couple who were divorcing, working alongside family lawyers and accountants and wanting to structure their assets in tax advantageous manner considering the various time limits for transfers
