About Petya
Petya specialises in international arbitration and complex commercial litigation. She has extensive experience advising clients from the earliest stages of a dispute – developing strategy and assessing risk—through issuing proceedings, managing settlement discussions, and handling post-trial enforcement. Petya also provides strategic advice in respect of contractual pre-conditions to arbitration, enforceability of arbitration agreements, applicable laws and jurisdiction, interim, provisional and conservatory measures and enforcement of arbitral awards.
Petya’s work is defined by her strategic clarity, collaborative style, and ability to deliver positive outcomes across a range of sectors. Her practice spans technology, including cryptocurrency and digital assets, life sciences, corporate and energy disputes, with a particular focus on cross-border and high-value matters.
Petya is a dual-qualified commercial disputes lawyer, admitted as a solicitor in England & Wales and a member of Sofia Bar Association. She holds a doctorate in international commercial arbitration from City St George’s, University of London, an LLM from University of Leicester and a Magister Juris from Sofia University.

- ICC Arbitration: c. €6.5m construction dispute between a contractor and subcontractor concerning design and delivery of Balance of Plant (BOP) for a hydropower station
- LCIA Arbitration: c. £3m dispute arising out of a Software Licence and Technical Service Agreement. Advised on emergency arbitrator proceedings and interim measures, including asset tracing and asset preservation. Supported enforcement strategy across jurisdictions
- Potential LCIA Arbitration: Advised on contractual pre-conditions, applicable law and jurisdiction in respect of potential arbitration proceedings arising out of a shareholder dispute, where the Shareholders Agreement contained a valid arbitration agreement governed by English law, while the Articles of Association were governed by the laws of the British Virgin Islands (BVI)
- LCIA arbitration: unfair prejudice claim for c. £40m administered by the LCIA under the UNCITRAL Arbitration Rules (2013)
- Ad hoc arbitration: Advised a local authority on an arbitration dispute of ci £1m concerning the liabilities vested in several local authorities as Scheme Creditors under a Municipal Mutual Insurance Scheme of Arrangement
- Advised on the enforcement of judgments rendered by the Dubai Courts
- Advised on the enforceability of English court judgments in Canada
- Court of Appeal: Appeal relating to the enforcement of Danish judgments in England and Wales
- Bates -v- Post Office / GLO Compensation Scheme: Part of the Freeths team advising hundreds of claimants in the landmark Post Office litigation and the associated GLO Compensation Scheme. Role included strategic coordination, document review, and client engagement in one of the UK’s most significant group actions
- Advised a major retail brand on the termination of a service agreement and represented the company in settlement discussions concerning ownership of intellectual property rights and post-termination issues
- Advised a local authority in a c. £1.2m IT dispute concerning malfunctioning software and contractor’s failure to deliver adequate services
- Advised a logistics and warehousing provider on a c. £1m licensing dispute arising out of a warehouse management system licence agreement
- Advised a manufacturer of medical devices based in Switzerland on the successful application for setting aside default costs certificates
- Shareholder Disputes: Advised shareholders in disputes concerning ownership of shares, including providing advice on beneficial ownership, share transfer restrictions, and unfair prejudice petitions
- Breach of warranty in a Share Purchase Agreement: advised the seller under a Share Purchase Agreement in their claim against the purchaser for breach of warranties
- Advised an energy provider on termination of energy broker agreement
- Advised an energy provider on a force majeure notice provided under a solar and storage offtake agreement
