About Su
Su is a Partner in the Restructuring and Insolvency Department with over 20 years’ experience working in the Midlands (Su has spent time in Leicester, Nottingham and Birmingham during her career).
Su undertakes non contentious restructuring and insolvency matters, working on a range of restructuring and turnaround scenarios, using her experience to achieve results for all parties.
Su works with companies and their directors in times of financial challenge either for the company itself or when impacted by financial issues with suppliers, customers, landlords, tenants etc. This includes working with the directors to help them ensure they comply with their duties.
Su also works with insolvency practitioners in relation to appointments, selling insolvent businesses and security issues. Su also works with companies buying businesses and assets from insolvency practitioners.
Additionally, Su works with lenders and financiers to assist when they have challenges with their borrowers. Su uses this experience to assist companies experiencing difficulties to work with their lenders to find mutually beneficial solutions.
Su has a particular knowledge of distressed real estate as well as formal insolvency appointments and security issues.
Su has worked across a wide variety of sectors including construction, retail, hospitality and leisure, automotive and manufacturing.

Notable work & expertise
- Working with a group of companies operating in the construction industry to facilitate the liquidation of one group company. Working with the directors and the proposed liquidator to devise and execute a strategy to enable the group to retain the benefit of the company’s assets while not infringing insolvency legislation or breaching the group’s banking covenants
- Leading a cross-disciplinary team including Real Estate, Conveyancing, Construction, Banking, Tax, Insurance and Planning to protect the investment of a private equity house in two part completed building conversions of offices to apartments, where most had been sold off plan to foreign investors, culminating in the administration of two companies, to enable one site to be completed and the options for either selling the apartments individually or the property as a whole to be explored. Subsequently working with the administrators to progress both sites
- Working with the directors of national café chain, to place the companies into administration and as part of the team that completed three contract race sales within a 36 hour period to enable the business to continue. One of the purchasing entities remained as a client of the firm
- Advising landlords of the effect of various retail CVAs
- Supporting the directors of a cinema chain who were facing closure due to the pandemic, considering its options for reopening and how to structure the group for the future (including potentially using CVAs, a restructuring plan, hiving up assets and/or administration);
- Working with the directors of an English manufacturing company in a group headquartered in Holland through a process starting with them thinking they would run out of working capital within 2 weeks to a solvent sale and subsequent wind down of the remainder of the business
- Advising a lender who had advanced funds to an individual who owned the freehold to a hotel who had granted a lease to a company which ran the hotel business. The lender held a debenture from the trading company but there was no cross guarantee. We therefore appointed receivers over the freehold who in turn appointed administrators over the company using unpaid rent as the basis of the appointment. Subsequently acting for the receivers and administrators in realising the business and assets
- Advising a supplier to the Arcadia group to maximise realisations under their retention of title claim and continuing supply
