Suriya is a Partner at the Construction & Engineering team at Freeths.  A specialist in non-contentious construction matters, Suriya’s experience covers renewable energy (solar and battery storage), infrastructure & energy from waste projects, and mainstream construction commercial development work.  Suriya acts for developers, funders and contractors. She has also acted for utility companies and waste operators.

Suriya advises on complex construction and engineering contracts, O&M contracts, appointments, and associated security documentation.  She works with several industry forms of contracts such as MF/1, FIDIC, NEC, JCT and IChemE.

Suriya is a specialist in climate contracting and is skilled at advising clients on tackling their climate ambitions within their contract drafting. She has had close collaborations with The Chancery Lane Project in respect of clause drafting and has been a speaker at their sessions. Suriya continues to support NEC Contracts in respect of their X29 climate change clause.

Underpinning her practice is the importance she places in providing practical advice to her clients on contract strategy and approach to take. To enable her clients transition from legal contract negotiations to project delivery, Suriya skilfully navigates relationship building alongside clear advice to clients in order to manage and mitigate project risk, taking into account stakeholder interests and commercial drivers.
