Leading law firm Freeths’ Trainee Legal Executive, Maxwell McCartney, has won Professional Services Apprentice of the Year at the West Yorkshire Apprenticeship Awards 2025.
With 14 categories, these awards celebrate apprentices, training providers and businesses that are helping to shape the region’s thriving apprenticeship community. The evening is designed to honour and showcase the outstanding apprenticeship network that is flourishing across West Yorkshire.
Maxwell McCartney was praised by the judging panel for excelling in his role. Most notably, for providing administration support on multi-million-pound corporate deals, working with trial evidence on litigation cases, and for handling original documents relating to major land sales across real estate matters.
Maxwell was also recognised for his work as a diversity and inclusion representative, where he has supported with organising DE&I, charitable and social events. He was also given credit for his extracurricular work as a mental health first aider at the firm, where he has spent his time advocating for the importance men’s mental health.
Commenting on the win, Maxwell McCartney, said: “I am so grateful to Freeths for the support the firm has shown me during my career so far. From the day I started, I knew this was the firm I wanted to become a solicitor at. Thank you to everyone at Freeths who has helped me during my apprenticeship – I may have accepted the award, but you all helped me get here. For that, I am extremely grateful.”
