About Edward
Edward is a qualified planning lawyer within the Planning & Environment Group, based in the London office. Edward joined Freeths in August 2021.
Edward has over 4 years of experience in planning law, acting primarily for private developers, local authorities and statutory undertakers on a wide range of planning matters including planning & highway agreements, planning appeals, judicial review proceedings, development consent orders, property due diligence, major highway compulsory purchase schemes, environmental statement review and permitted development & use advice.
Edward studied Law at Durham University before completing the LPC at the University of Law in Chester. Edward trained at Weightmans, including two seats (third and fourth) in planning and a client secondment, and qualified as a solicitor in Weightmans’ Planning team in September 2020.

- Raising enquiries, carrying out due diligence and producing planning reports in relation to large residential, commercial and mixed-use transactions as well as energy & infrastructure (mainly solar and battery storage) projects for various clients. Working with other departments to fully service clients.

- Negotiating and drafting section 106 planning agreements (and Deeds of Variation) for various local authorities and a range of residential and commercial developers.
- Negotiating and drafting section 38 and 278 highway agreements, and section 104 and 185 drainage agreements.
- Advising on permitted development rights and use.
- Environmental statement review for large, mixed-use, employment led regeneration scheme.
- Lodging judicial review proceedings.
- Advising on planning issues for an array of development proposals, including advice on Listed Building Consents, Permitted Development Rights, CIL and planning conditions/enforcement & use advice.
