About Kathryn

Kathryn Carter is a Senior Associate in Freeths’ Court of Protection Team, working out of the Nottingham office.

Kathryn completed her legal training with Freeths and qualified in the Freeths’ Trusts, Estates and Tax department in 2016.

Since qualification Kathryn has spent her time advising clients regarding their wills, lasting powers of attorney and estate planning. When it comes to estate planning, her focus has always been on ensuring the client’s estate is left in the most tax efficient state, utilising reliefs and exemptions where possible, balanced with achieving the client’s wishes.

Kathryn is an affiliate member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP) and has passed the STEP Advanced Will Preparation examinations with a Distinction. Kathryn is also experienced in dealing with the administration of estates. During her time in the Trusts, Estates and Tax department she has dealt with estate administration for lay executors and also where Freeths’ trust corporation has been appointed as professional executors.

During her career, Kathryn has developed a keen interest in vulnerable client work and has recently taken the opportunity to move to our specialist Court of Protection department. Kathryn now specialises in acting for vulnerable clients who lack capacity and the management of their financial affairs. This includes applications to the Court of Protection including the preparation of Statutory Wills.
