Nottingham maternity review looking into over 1,000 relevant cases
It has now been confirmed that more than 1,000 families’ cases are being considered as part of the review into the Nottingham Maternity Services.
It is widely known that Donna Ockenden previously uncovered 200 avoidable baby deaths within the Shrewsbury and Telford NHS Trust, however the cases in Nottingham are looking to be in excess of that number with over 700 families contacting the review within the first month. That number has now risen to over 1,000, and it has been identified that more than 70 of those families include former and current Nottingham hospital workers.
As the review progresses, all the families with relevant cases will be contacted by letter this week with information as to how they can get in touch to provide further vital input. At Freeths, we are working with a number of families who now want the review to uncover the truth and for real changes to be made, and we are being contacted by more concerned families as the review continues.
Jane Williams, Head of Clinical Negligence at Freeths said: “The number of relevant cases being considered as part of the review highlights the urgent need for change within Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust maternity services, and our clients’ are desperate to ensure that lessons are finally learnt.”
The review will consider the same questions which made up the review into Shrewsbury and Telford and is set to last 18 months.
Freeths represents a number of families and children who have suffered injury or have lost loved ones as a result of failures in medical care during labour and birth. These claims seek to ensure that any child who has suffered a preventable injury can access the services they require such as care, therapy, aids and equipment, and suitably adapted accommodation which may assist them during their lives. We can also help secure an apology from the Trust responsible and seek to ensure the same mistakes are not made again.
If you or a loved one have similar concerns, please do not hesitate to contact Freeths clinical negligence team for a free, confidential discussion.
