Legal Graduate Programme
Our Programme
Freeths’ Legal Graduate programme offers the best start to your career.
Are you a standout individual with a burning ambition to be a brilliant lawyer? At Freeths, we get you off to a flying start. We are a full-service law firm with more than 1,300 freethinking colleagues, spread across 12 UK offices.
Our Legal Graduate Programme is open to final year law students, law graduates and students completing the Postgraduate Diploma in Law (PGDL) and offers an exciting alternative route to qualification at a forward thinking law firm. In Scotland, applicants will need to have either completed an LLB in Scots law or the two-year accelerated LLB in Scots law for non-law graduates and the Diploma in Professional Legal Practice, PEAT 1, before they can apply.
You will work alongside our talented team, providing legal support to trainees, lawyers and partners whilst learning what a career in law demands.
We’re looking for outstanding candidates who are academically able with drive and commitment to succeed on the programme. Individuals need to be flexible in attitude and willing to learn to contribute to the success of the firm.

How does the programme work?
Aspiring solicitors in England & Wales
Legal Graduates join the firm on a 6 month contract, performance is formally reviewed at 6 weeks, 3 months and 4.5 months, there is a Situational Judgement Test at 4.5 months and a final formal assessment. There are regular, less formal, check in conversations with a supervisor
At 4.5 months the firm will make the decision on whether to offer formal training contract based on reviews and a final assessment of performance
If you successfully secure an offer you will be given a date to commence your training. In common with most law firms operating graduate trainee programmes, there may be a delay between the offer of a place on our formal training and its commencement. Legal Graduates will continue in their role until the start of formal training
During the formal training trainees will complete Qualifying Work Experience (QWE) and we will fund the SQE 1 and SQE 2 preparation courses and exams
As a Trainee, you will rotate seats in different departments providing development and experience across a number of law practice areas
Once you’ve completed the requirements, including the QWE and have passed SQE 1 and SQE 2 assessments, you will be able to qualify as a solicitor

"I love working at Freeths. The collegiate and supportive culture of the firm and the Glasgow office have been the highlight of my traineeship. As the team has grown, I have had the opportunity to work alongside most of its members and learn from their considerable expertise, making my traineeship experience genuinely valuable."
Katy Ramage
Trainee Solicitor
"Freeths has provided me with an excellent foundation to my legal career by giving me hands-on experience of the types of tasks I would later undertake as a trainee, while also allowing me to become familiar with the firm, the systems used and to build strong working relationships. Now that I have started my traineeship, I feel better equipped to contribute from the outset and concentrate on developing further throughout my time as a Trainee Solicitor."
