Managing megaproject disputes under English law

James' practice covers a wide range of technical disputes from construction and engineering, energy and power, shipbuilding and offshore structures, and commercial disputes to telecommunications and IT disputes. He regularly acts in cases relating to domestic and equivalent international PFI/PPP and outsourcing contracting, acting for contractors and private and public employers.

Much of James’ work is international in nature and throughout his career he has advised on disputes in Europe, Africa, the Middle East, Australia and across Asia. James also has wide experience in international arbitration (ad hoc as well as major institutional international rules) in all major arbitration institutions and seats.

Throughout his career James has been consistently recognised by the leading legal directories in the fields of energy and natural resources, construction, international arbitration, information technology and professional negligence. The Legal 500 2026 says he is “a phenomenal silk.”

Chris is a Chartered Quantity Surveyor with over 45 years’ experience in the Construction Industry. For the last 30 years he has specialised in expert witness work in the area of quantum analysis.

His neutral work as a mediator, adjudicator, arbitrator and dispute board member has involved resolving over 250 disputes. He has practised in the UK and internationally in connection with major construction and engineering contract disputes and a significant number of general commercial contract matters.

The disputes in which he has been involved as mediator have related to claims as high as £30 million, and as neutral in dispute board matters up to $250 million. His expert witness practice has included appointment on infrastructure disputes where total project values have been in excess of $1.5 billion.
